The Market Harborough WI is part of the Leicestershire & Rutland Federation of Womens Institutes, which in turn ties us into the national WI network.

Every WI is self-governing within the framework of the WI constitution but is also part of a regional organisation, known as a federation. There are 69 federations run by an elected board of members known as Federation Trustees. These are supported by employed members of staff. Federations are the link between the WI in their area and the WI’s national organisation.

The Leicestershire and Rutland Federation was formed in 1918 and has since expanded to over 130 WIs throughout the two counties. These range from small village ones with a few members to larger ones with over 100 members. Apart from providing support for the WI committees and members in the region, the L&R Federation also organises activities for their members through a number of committees.
