‘The Pickled Village’ at MHWI

Just in case you missed last week’s meeting, here’s a few notes about our very interesting evening with Camille Ortega McLean from the ‘Pickled Village’ company.

As you can see, we were treated to tasting a host of Camille’s wonderful range, and had the opportunity to buy them.

Camille literally made her first batch of chutney in her kitchen and went on to set up ‘Well Pickled’ in Scotland.   Over a period of time, she moved the business to a large manufacturing unit.  Her products have been sold in Fortnums, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges as well as in delis and farm shops. Word spread and they were soon stocked in fine food shops in France, the Middle East and the US.  Camille believes in sharing love through food.

When Camille took on the village post office in Bulwick, she knew she would need to do something special to keep it going. She set about creating a range of preserves made on the Aga in her kitchen and, with the support of the village,  Camille has turned the shop and tea terrace into a hub for the village as well as a destination for visitors from all over. With the launch of ‘The Pickled Shop’ she can now spread the love even further.

The ‘Pickled Village’ prides itself  in preserving British tradition with spirit. They produce a range of chutneys, marmalades and preserves which are traditional favourites with an internationally inspired twist.

The products all have tongue-in-cheek names, the name is thought up first, then the recipe is developed. Camille fashioned the Jubilee preserve out of blueberry jam at the bottom, then a layer of pear and elderflower, with strawberry on the top, and sent a pot to the Palace!

The manufacturing is now carried out at Bramble Foods, Market Harborough, where gift packs containing three jars have been added to the range, as well as hampers for every occasion.
