A Year in Review

September is the months of the Annual General Meeting of the Market Harborough WI and as usual members enjoyed an evening of reminiscences of all the things members of the WI have been up to in 2026 and some fun activities.

The MHWI Committee: Michelle (Treasurer), Mary, Bridget (President), Hilary (Secretary), Fiona, Lynn, Susan, Diane, Di. Carolyn (Membership Secretary), Jane and Julie were unfortunately unable to attend the photo shoot, but you’ll meet them at one of our events for sure!

The attending members gave a full vote of confidence to our committee members, who have done a sterling job over the last 12 months to keep us organised and entertained with a varied programme ranging from Indian Cookery to Carol’s Capers Travel Tales and Foraging as well as a whole raft of Social Events and even a trip to the Houses of Parliament. Membership has grown to over 80 members this year and the finances are in a healthy state, allowing MHWI to fund more interesting speakers and events for our members in the coming year.

The evening then progressed to a pleasant time with a free glass of Pimms or alcohol free Prosecco, chatting and playing People Bingo – with options ranging from ‘has family living abroad’ to ‘has lived in Market Harborough all their life’ (amazingly not many by the way…).

This was followed by a blind tasting of crisps which proved again that more expensive is not necessarily better.

And finally a grateful thank you goes to the daughter of a late WI member who donated the content of her mother’s wine and spirit stash for a free Raffle at the AGM. This turned out to be an eclectic mix of bottles – there will be some interesting tasting experiences happening in a number of Market Harborough households…
