Know someone who has a beloved antique for restoration?

Will Brown has contacted MHWI to say, ‘I work for a TV production company called Blink Films, and we are currently developing a new series that will restore treasured antique items as a surprise for their owner. We’re looking for people that may know someone who has a beloved item in need of repair, who may be willing to take part in our (not for broadcast) pilot episode. I wondered if you’d be so kind as to share the attached casting flyer among your members, should this be of interest to anyone?’

Volunteers for monthly programme or social events

Would you like to help organise one of our monthly programme meetings for 2016?    You don’t have to be on the committee, just willing to contact the speaker (we have lots of ideas and contacts, thanks to all your suggestions), meet the host on the night, make sure they have everything they need and give a thank you at the end.

Or, maybe you have an idea for a one off social event?  Perhaps there is somewhere you would like to go with a group of MHWI members or a special speaker you would like to invite for a one off activity night?  If you would like to make this happen and are willing to organise the event, we’d love to hear from you.  Speak to a member of the committee at the next monthly meeting or drop us an email: marketharboroughwi@gmail.com

Helpers for the Carnival urgently needed

There’s still plenty of WI Centenary logo eeD5k3OX_400x400opportunity to get involved.  We need volunteers to help with preparations, such as making decorations (there will be some fun craft evenings ahead), setting up the lorry the evening before (strong, handy partners welcome, too) and followers to accompany the float on the day (Saturday 13 June 2015).  Contact Us or call 07547 890 756.

Seeds, plants, cuttings, garden paraphernalia needed

beeSpring is firmly with us and our monthly raffle for April will be for seeds, plants, cuttings and garden paraphernalia.  We would like members to donate items.  So, check out what you have at home and get potting up items to bring along on 22 April.  Maybe time to have a clear out in the garden shed and bring in unwanted items?

Plants should be those that attract bees in line with the WI’s national bee campaign.  You might also like to download this helpful leaflet from national WI on plants to grow in your garden that attract bees: FINAL_Bee_Garden

Can you help with the Great Daffodil Appeal this month?

My name is Carrie and I am the Leicestershire Community Fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care.  I am generating support from local community groups for our Great Daffodil Appeal collection that takes place this March.

Marie Curie Cancer Care is appealing for people in Leicestershire to donate their time this March to collect for the charity’s annual Great Daffodil Appeal.  The appeal is Marie Curie’s biggest fundraiser, which encourages everyone to give a donation and wear a daffodil pin in March.

Marie Curie Nurses give free hands-on care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes and vital emotional support to their loved ones.  We allow families to make the most of the precious time they have left together.  Given the choice, most of us would want to die at home, surrounded by the people and things we cherish.  Marie Curie Cancer Care makes this possible.  But the sad fact is, every five minutes someone in the UK dies without the care they need at the end of their life. That’s why w urgently need to reach more people.

The money raised in Leicestershire will help local Leicestershire patients and enable Marie Curie Nurses to provide more free care to local people with terminal illnesses in their own homes.

If you think that your Women’s Institute would like to be part of the collection this year, then I would love to hear from you.

 Kindest regards
