Little Jumpers, Little Jumpers!

It is 42 Days to Christmas Panic Day (23rd December), so the members of the Market Harborough Craft Club met last week to kick off the season with an evening of making felt jumpers for Christmas tree decoration.

Oodles of opportunity for creative designs using beads, buttons, ribbons and braid – and even twinkly lights. Fiddly at times, but great fun. And the results speak for themselves – not bad for a chatty evening’s work!

November Craft 1

Next month’s Craft Club will be all about Furushiki, the Japanese art of wrapping gifts in fabric. Watch out for more information on the WhatsApp group or get in touch at marketharboroughwi@gmail.com if you would like to join in.

The Bright Lights of the Golden Mile

The MHWI Social Event this week saw a group of members travel by community bus to the Golden Mile in Leicester.

November Golden Mile 3

We first visited Anokhi House of Sarees and had a peruse around their lovely shop. They told us about the history of sarees, when they are worn and showed us the different types. We even got the chance to try some of them on!

November Golden Mile 1

Our next stop was Vama jewellers. They showed us around the shop and explained some of the different styles of Indian jewellery and also some of the Indian traditions when the more elaborate jewellery is worn.

November Golden Mile 2

After all that we obviously had to have a good mooch around the shops before going to Bobbys restaurant for some delicious Indian food.

November Golden Mile 4

Many thanks to Ranju @anokhihouseofsarees, Nilesh of @vamacollectionsuk, the team at Bobby’s and of course a big Thank You to the community bus!

The Last Walk of the Season was a Winner!

Members of the Market Harborough WI Walking Group went on a walk at Laughton last Sunday.

This was the last walk of the season and the weather did its best to make it special. The sun was out and the walk took the group through some stunning scenerie. Even the local ‘wildlife’ was friendly!

The next meeting of the group will be in December for the annual Christmas Lunch and planning session for the next season. If you would like to join the group, just send an email to marketharboroughwi@gmail.com – we look forward to hearing from you!

Reminder – Last few seats remaining for our trip to the Golden Mile in Leicester!

There are still a few places left for our trip to the Golden Mile in Leicester on the 6th November.

We have booked the community bus, which will take us there and back. We’ll leave Market Harborough at about 12.15 and plan to first visit Anokhi House of Sari https://anokhisarees.co.uk/about-us/ They will chat to us about the history of the sari, how to wear it and give us a chance to try one on. They also sell accessories so we can look around their shop while we are there.

After this, we will visit Vama Jewellers https://vamacollections.co.uk/pages/about-us who will talk to us about how they make their jewellery and we’ll have a chance to have a browse around.

We have then booked Bobby’s Indian Café at 4pm for an early dinner before we get back on to the bus at about 6pm to return to Market Harborough.

The WI is funding the community bus charge, so the only cost for participants will be the cost of their chosen meal (and any shopping you’ll do of course… :-))

To join in please email marketharboroughwi@gmail.com to secure your place on a first come, first served basis.

Market Harborough WI AGM

Well – this picture says it all:

September AGM 7

It was a wet and windy evening last Wednesday when 26 odd hardy members of the Market Harborough WI met at the Church Hall in Fairfield Road to hold their AGM and have some fun despite the weather…

The evening started with the business ‘bit’ of the AGM – After Notices Bridget, our President, talked about the past year and the plans for the next one and Clare, the outgoing Treasurer reported on the state of the MHWI finances. Both Bridget and Fiona (our Secretary) were confirmed in post and Michelle was voted in as the new Treasurer. This fills the statutary positions and allows our WI to continue for another year. In addition to Bridget, Fiona and Michelle, Carolyn has agreed to continue looking after the membership administration and Lynn and Mary are joining the committee to lend a hand in committee activities.  A number of members have also kindly volunteered to help at the meetings.  Thank you to you all for giving your time to the running of the MHWI. We can always do with additional hands on deck, so if you would like to help please talk to one of the committee members at the next meeting!

Next followed the fun part of the evening – helped along with free cake and prosecco. Tables were set up with traditional (and some newer!) games and members had fun chatting, playing Jenga, Kerplunk, Dominoes, Connect Four Qwirkle and Twister and may be even learning a game they had not tried before.

Thank you to everyone who came along despite the weather and congratulations to our committee members!
