May Meeting at the Village, St Mary’s Road, Market Harborough

What a very informative and interesting evening we had at The Village on Wednesday evening. Beth Lambert gave us an update on their various initiatives including the Community Fridge. If anyone has any unopened perishable food that would otherwise be thrown away please feel free to take it to the Community Fridge so that others may benefit. Similarly if anyone has a glut of fruit and veg from allotments or gardens this can also be taken to the Community Fridge to help support other families and reduce food waste. Staggeringly over 2 tonnes of food has been saved from being wasted since the inception of the Community Fridge which is a massive achievement.

We had a chance to sample the delights of the Community Cafe – well worth a visit for their delicious cakes and well priced drinks. We also had a look around the Village and make some purchases from the many stalls including Refill Revolution. If you haven’t been to the Village we can highly recommend a visit. The Village is a non profit Community interest company set up to support and work with the local community. To enable them to continue to do this they are in need of donations and have set up a go fund me page. Any donation of any amount would be greatly received and the following link will provide all the details.

We also heard from the Harborough Woodland group regarding their many initiatives to plant trees in the area and also their flood prevention schemes. They have been instrumental in the planting of 34,000 trees over the last 3 years in the area! The Harborough Climate Action group provided us some practical suggestions on how we can reduce our carbon footprint and information on the Big Green week. For further information please see http://www.sustainableharboroughcommunity.co.uk/biggreenweek

Archery

We had a great evening last week harnessing our inner ‘Maid Marion’ when we had a go at Archery. The Market Harborough Archery club were brilliant in their teaching and we were all quite pleased with how we mastered this skill. They also made a mean cup of tea!

Many thanks to the Market Harborough Archery club – we had a great evening.
