‘Another lovely night of crafting with Market Harborough WI craft group,’ reports MHWI member,  Tansy Tilly.

Hobby night group-w500-h500

Hobby group busy at work preparing for our craft fair on 16th April

‘We collected all the pieces of bunting in that we had made since the last meeting (one is almost complete now, can be seen on the table). Some of us continued to make more bunting while others either made knitted mice or decorated ones that had already been made. See the photo for our completed works of art!’
‘We will continue to work on the bunting and mice in preparation for the craft fair in April.
Next meeting we plan to make some lavender/herb bags and the oat/flower/essential oil bath sachets we learnt to make at a previous meet, also for the craft fair.’
Tansy concludes, ‘On a personal note I really enjoyed being able to share some of my knitting knowledge with others in the group. Looking forward to the next meeting.

See you at the hobby night this evening

‘Our next meeting is tonight, Thursday 3rd March, says Sarah Trappitt, Hobby Group Co-ordinator.’

‘We had a good first evening and cut out letters for the Market Harborough WI bunting. 10 people attended and we all took some home to make.  Some of us are planning to make some little mice to sell at the Craft Sale and will be blinging them up together at our next meeting.    Items will be sold at our Craft Fair on Saturday 16 April.’

‘Everyone there felt the 1st Thursday each month was a good time to meet. We discussed paying a smalll sum each meeting to help pay for the room but this will need to go before the Committee.’

In the meantime, new members are very welcome, so do come along this evening to see what it’s all about.

Canary Girls by Mikron Theatre

Make sure you put this date in your diaries.  The fabulous touring Mikron Theatre will be here again at 7.30 pm in the Congregational Church, Bowden Lane with their new show Canary Girls.  If it’s as good as Raising Agents last year, it will be brilliant.

Details of how to buy your tickets will be available soon.

Night out at the ballet to see Giselle

Giselle-w500-h500Are you free on Wednesday 6 April?  Several members of the MHWI committee will be going to see this evening broadcast at the Savoy Cinema, Corby.  We thought it would be a natural follow on from the March monthly meeting on The Royal Opera House where Annabel Smith’s daughter will be coming up from London to give members a peek behind the scenes to find out more about the design and production of the costumes and scenery.

If you would like to meet up before the performance at the Savoy then go ahead and book your tickets.  Just let Clare, Carmen or Annabel know before the 6th April so they can look out for your group.

£500 donated by MHWI to new local volunteer project

We are delighted to announce that £500 raised from our highly successful film evening last November and our Christmas raffle (so generously supported by a whole host of local businesses) resulted in a cheque being present to VASL (Voluntary Action South Leicestershire).

Diane Claridge (1)-w500-h500The money is to go to a new project, called Community Champions, where volunteers not only befriend local people but also work with them to support them to take part in community activities, leaving a sustainable outcome for all concerned.   Diane Claridge, MHWI member, and employee of VASL accepted the cheque.

If you would like to know more about volunteering for the Community Champions project or about other volunteering opportunities in the areas, go to VASL’s website for more information and contact details.  You could also speak to Diane at the next monthly meeting.

First hobby night success

‘I really enjoyed the first hobby night meeting, starting to make the bunting and having a chat. Thanks all,’ says MHWI member, Tansy Tilly.

‘We thought it would be fun to make/ accessorise the mice at the next hobby night, Thurs March 3rd. The knitting can be started ready for stuffing at the meeting,  or little accessories got together to decorate if you prefer, or just turn up and do what you fancy on the night.’

We look forward to seeing the finished mice for sale at our craft fair in the Old Grammar School on Saturday 16 April.

Tansy has shared the instructions, too.  Instructions for little knitted mouse
