Can you sell some Christmas raffle tickets?

raffle ticket-w500-h500We have some fabulous prizes, very generously donated by a wide range of local organisations.  A final list will be published very shortly.  In the meantime, we began selling tickets last Wednesday at the film evening.  If you can sell some to friends, family or work colleagues, then pick up booklets at the November monthly meeting(next week).  However, if you want to begin selling them immediately, call into 98 Coventry Road.

Film night resounding success!

‘A wonderful, friendly buzz to the whole evening,’ was the sentiment shared by everyone.

Filmgoers filled the newly refurbished lounge at Market Harborough, celebrating the WI Centenary with a glass of sparkling Proseco and homemade nibbles.

The film, ‘A Royal Night Out’, was thoroughly enjoyable, drawing you in from the start.  The young Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret were celebrating VE day at Buckingham Palace, engaging in official duties.  After persuasive pleas to parents they were allowed out to join the celebrating crowds and gain a different perspective of the revelry.  What happened then was, of course, purely conjecture, but the film ably portrayed Margaret as someone liking to push the boundaries and enjoy herself, while Elizabeth was thoughtful, very aware of her responsibilities to her subjects and welcomed the chance to see life from a totally different angle.  It just left you thinking, was there someone who really would like to have been just an ordinary person?

Thank you to Octagon Films for working with us to make this happen.  Maybe you’d like to become a member and enjoy watching films and live broadcasts locally?

Proceeds will go to the new befriending service (Community Champions) being set up by VASL: volunteers will accompany vulnerable people to  community events, eg a WI meeting, helping them to build confidence and continue to join in  locally.

Thanks, too, to all the MHWI Committee members who helped to make this event run so well on the night.
