Fiona wins Denman College bursary

Congratulations to Fiona Thompson, our MHWI Secretary.  Fiona reports, ‘In July, I applied for a bursary to attend Denman College and have been awarded a First-Time Bursary worth £250. I will be going on a 4-day residential Tailoring for Beginners Course in February 2016.’   We look forward to hearing all about it and seeing some pictures of your new skills.

New Denman Course brochure out now

Denman CollegeThe new Denman brochure, covering all courses and events from July 2015 to June 2016, is now available for download from our website (.pdf file downloadable at foot of page).

Katie Bell, Marketing and Events Assistant says, ‘Denman is continuing its celebration of the WI centenary by running a wide range of exciting events. We’ve arranged two trips to see the WI play, Raising Agents, in July and we have an Inspiring Women Day with Julie Summers, author of the book Jambusters, on which the current ITV series Home Fires is based. See page 63 for more details on both.

What’s more, we’re running a lovely day in conjunction with the Ashmolean Museum, through which you can take an exclusive peak at one of the largest and most important collections of British drawings in the world. See page 37 for more information.

In addition to all this, we have a plethora of our usual day and residential courses in cookery, craft and lifestyle on offer, such as innovative Gluten and Dairy Free Cookery (see page 6), a wide range of sewing courses covering everything from vintage frocks to handbags (see pages 28 and 29) and a massive selection of musical appreciation residentials (see pages 50 to 52). The choice is endless, so grab a cup of tea and have a browse!

We do hope you enjoy our latest offering and we look forward to welcoming you to Denman soon.

Annabel enjoys Denman College raffle prize

Annabel Smith, Committee Member, had a super surprise at the Christmas raffle: a ticket for a course at the WI’s well known Denman College.  Annabel was delighted to report at the February meeting that she had attended the Willow Sculpture course with a friend.  They had 7 items using willow, including a wigwam and bird feeder.  The latter she kindly donated to the evening’s raffle.  Annabel said, ‘ It was brilliant.  Denman is great.’

Why you should consider a Denman College course

Doll1-w500-h500Committee member, Annabel, says, ‘This is the Christmas fairy I made at Denman last year and I think Hazel’s WI book makes a great perch for her! She’s made from scraps – wire, paper and a pair of tights etc. My daughters went with me and we had a really lovely day.’

She’s super, isn’t she?  Maybe put a voucher for Denman College on your Christmas wish list?  Even better, come along to the monthly meeting on Wednesday 17 December 2014 and buy raffle tickets: a £200 Denman prize is one of the wonderful prizes.
