Change of plan this evening – it’s Halloween!

pumpkins-w500-h500There’s a change of plans, due to unexpected circumstances.  Tonight we’re celebrating Halloween (instead of the advertised Samba Percussion).  Fun will still abound with quizzes, pumpkins to be carved and prizes to be won!  Come along and please dress up if you’d like.  Any themed raffle donations kindly accepted.  See you at 7.30 pm.

(Apologies for the late notice on the website and any confusion with the post about Samba still going out yesterday – a busy day and just caught up with my laptop – Helen)

Denman voucher winners

Well done to Clare Farquhar, outgoing President, and visitor, Rachel Dodds, who each won a £200 voucher towards a course at Denman College.  We look forward to hearing what you book and some pictures of what you did.  Oh, and Rachel, we hope you enjoyed last night and will be signing up as a member very soon!

We will also be donating a £100 towards Denman College (proceeds from the raffle and a little bit more!).

‘How did he do that?’

Douglas Maddy astounded MHWI members with his magic tricks at the annual meeting last night leaving them saying, ‘ How did he do that?’

Whether it was swallowing a balloon, or cutting or joining lengths of rope, we couldn’t work how it was done.  Douglas did explain one trick though when Patsy Tracey helped him with his toilet paper trick.  Apparently it all depends on getting someone to focus on one thing, taking their attention away from what is actually happening elsewhere around them.

While this was taking place, members shared nibbles and drinks with others on their tables.  Well done, Douglas: a fun end to an eventful annual meeting.

Happy birthday - 5 successful years!

Happy birthday – 5 successful years!

It’s amazing – 5 successful years’ of MHWI completed this month.  We’ve achieved so much: wide range of speakers and activities at monthly meetings, continued to regularly recruit new members of all ages, supported local charities and taken part in town events (such as MH in Bloom and winning best float in the Carnival last year).

We need your help and support to do this and continue to grow, so we look forward to seeing you again on Wednesday evening at the annual meeting.  We are still seeking new committee members to replace those stepping down, not least our President, Clare.  Although several people are stepping up, others are welcome to come forward, not least someone to be new President.  Fancy doing this?  On your own or maybe jointly?  Now’s your chance.  You need to commit for a year, but ideally for two.  Are you up for it?

After the annual meeting business on Wednesday, illusionist Douglas Maddy, will be astounding us with his tricks, leaving us thinking, ‘Now how did he do that?!’

Christmas wineMembers are invited to bring along their favourite tipple (and glasses) and nibbles to share with others at their tables.  Tea and coffee will be on sale (no cakes).

Monthly meeting tonight – see you there!

Tonight’s speaker is Sam, single mum to one amazing son, business founder at Iridescence Jewellery, mentor and motivational speaker.  Passions are – living life to its fullest, quirky jewellery and accessories, self development, people and good coffee. Sparkly sale included.

You can also book your places for several MHWI social events coming up in the next few weeks: 2 events during NFWI Sports Week, 11 to 18 September 2016: Pilates on Wednesday evening and Hoola Hoop on Friday evening.  On Thursday evening, 22 September there’s the cookery demonstration and meal at Bridge 67 and on Saturday 19 November a day trip to Birmingham.

What’s happening in July and August

A reminder that the next monthly meeting is on Wednesday 24th August, when Sam from Iridescence Jewellery will be giving an inspirational talk about her business journey as well as a chance to see her handbags and jewellery collection close up.

On Wednesday 13 July members are very welcome to meet at Gallones Parlour in Adam & Eve Street to hear a talk about ice cream making.  We hope you will treat yourself to one, too!  A great chance to catch up with other members and enjoy a social evening.

This evening’s meeting

Looking forward to a fascinating evening with our guest speaker from Gildings, local auctioneers.  Several members will be bringing in items for valuations, too, so some surprises may be on the agenda?!

Bookings will also be taken for the Bridge 67 Cookery School social event on 22 September and the Christmas shopping trip/Jewellery Quarter Museum Trip to Birmingham on Saturday 19 November.  So have some cash with you or your cheque book.
