Last chance to get your tickets for the Mikron Theatre – ‘Raising Agents’

Poster for Raising Agents-w500-h500

Friday 22nd May at 7.30pm. Congregational Hall, Bowden Lane, Market Harborough, LE16 7JD – buy your ticket now!

We are delighted to announce that the Mikron Touring Theatre will be in Market Harborough in May with their specially written play to celebrate 100 years’ of WI.

Bunnington WI is a bit down-at-heel. Dwindling membership means they can barely afford the hall, let alone a decent speaker. So when a PR guru becomes a member, the women are glad of new blood. Initially.

The milk of WI kindness begins to sour when she re-brands them the Bunnington Bunnies. They’re hopping. With stakes higher than a five tiered cake stand, a battle ensues for the very soul of Bunnington, perhaps the WI itself!

On the threshold of one century into the next, this tale of hobbyists and lobbyists asks how much we should know our past or how much we should let go of it.

Above all else, like the WI itself, Raising Agents is a story of friendship.

Friday 22nd May at 7.30pm. Congregational Hall, Bowden Lane, Market Harborough, LE16 7JD . Full £12, £10 conc. For tickets please email  marketharboroughwi@gmail.com.  Tea & Coffee/BYOB

Purchasing your copy of The WI: A Centenary History

WI Centenary logo eeD5k3OX_400x400Mavis Curtis’ book, The WI: A Centenary History, has studied the suffragists who made the WI one of the most important movements for women in the 20th century.  Clare Farquhar, our President, will be purchasing copies of this Centenary book via Market Harborough WI.  Name and payment to Clare by the April meeting, please.   In the meantime, do check out the link above to lots of fascinating pictures in a March issue of the ‘Daily Mail.’

Jamtastic! Your help is needed, too

carnival apr 15-w500-h500Our first carnival craft night was “jamtastic”!  Not the traditional WI jam making technique, but the wallpaper paste gave just the right consistency!!

Annabel and Gemma had great fun experimenting to get just the right colours.  We have damson, raspberry and apricot (which has some lumps in  it which looks very authentic!).

Victoria, Janice and Linda snipped and fixed the lids.  Thanks to Linda for supplying such lovely fabric.

Patsy and I have been looking through our list of needs and ladies that would like to join in the carnival fun.  Our next craft night will be cake making.  We need bath and car sponges,  blocks of polystyrene, sheets of foam, anything we can shape and turn into a variety of gateaux!!  All donations gratefully received.  If you would like to join in this evening a date will be announced at the next meeting.

We are still looking for volunteers to help us out on carnival day June 13th.  Please sign up, we are having so much fun, but we do need more people!! So please let email marketharboroughwi@gmail.com if you want to join in or have materials to donate.

100 years Membership Survey – have your say

WI Centenary logo eeD5k3OX_400x400Please take a few minutes to have your say on the future of the WI by completing this survey from the National Federation of Women’s Institutes.  100 Years Membership Survey

To mark the WI centenary, the NFWI is conducting a special one-off survey of WI members.

About this survey

The aim of the survey is to understand the views of WI members on some of the big issues in Britain today, and also to understand what role members think the WI has to play in today’s society.

The results of this survey will be used to inform the NFWI’s future policy and campaigns. The findings will also contribute to a new centenary publication celebrating the WI’s historic achievements over the past 100 years and exploring the views and concerns of today’s members.

How to take part

We would really like to make sure that we hear the views of as many WI members as possible. We would therefore be delighted if you would be able to complete the survey using the link provided.

We would be most grateful if you would please circulate the survey to WIs in your federation, and ask them to share the web link above with their members.   Last date for completing: 8 June 2015
