A Year in Review – It wasn’t all bad!

As 2020 comes to a close we look back on a year that has challenged all of us to adapt to life in an uncertain world. After the first lock-down in March threw all plans for the year out of the window, the Market Harborough WI has tried to find new ways for members to stay in touch and keep busy. At the time it was uncharted territory for many of us, but thanks to zoom, social media and a bit of resourcefulness we actually managed to put together a varied online program, started ‘The Ladies who Can’ WhatsApp group and bring the Book Angels and the Craft Club to virtual life as well.

So here is a kaleidoscope of images from the last 12 months as a reminder that 2020 had its enjoyable moments too. See how many you remember and can place into the right month – on the website click on any image to go to the story behind it.

Christmas Cake – 38!

This week the Market Harborough WI had a Bingo and Raffle for their last meeting of the year. This was our busiest Zoom meeting to-date and everyone got into the spirit of things. We even had Santas Little Helper attending… Thank you to the callers for doing a great job.

And for anyone who would like to look up all those bingo call references, here are a couple of links that may be helpful: List of British bingo nicknames – Wikipedia and The Ultimate List of Bingo Calls This won’t be the last Bingo Night we are having, so start memorising!

All the chat and natter made us realise how much we miss meeting in person – fingers crossed there will be light at the end of the tunnel in a few months. In the meantime, the Committee team are busy planning events for 2021 – stay tuned to the website to see what’s coming up!

We wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best for a healthy and content New Year!

Stay safe out there!

Layer Cakes, Roundabouts and Snowman Fingers…

There was a whole new vocabulary on offer when the Market Harborough WI met on Zoom to watch Heather O’Connor of ‘Flowers by Heather’ from Husbands Bosworth demonstrate how to create a seasonal wreath. For the uninitiated, all of the terms relate to how foliage is cut and arranged around the basic oasis frame. They are a good example of how Heather’s easy to follow teaching style helps those watching to visualise effects and memorise the do’s and don’ts of wreath making.

The result was a lovely show piece which was raffled off to one lucky attendee. And with a bit of coordination it has been delivered and (rumor has it) already decorates the entrance to her home.
And for those that would like to try their own hand at this lovely craft, the list of ‘ingredients’ have been sent to member’s email addresses.
Happy crafting and have a great advent season everyone!
