Canadian recipe for you to try!

During our WI Centennial year we made contact with 2 WIs (or their equivalent Country Womens’ Associations) in Canada and Australia.  Shelagh, our contact in Canada is a keen supporter of her local WI and was delighted to receive several copies of our leaflet ‘Top Tips’, which she will be sharing with members later this year at their annual meeting.

In the meantime, Shelagh has kindly sent a recipe for Travelling Ginger Cookies from a similar, Canadian collection of favourite recipes.  Perhaps you’d like to try a batch for your friends and family?  You can download the recipe here. Travelling Ginger Cookies

If you’re on the refreshment rota for February, then it would be great if you could make a batch for members to sample at the meeting.

Needed – unwanted bras and new pants!

As you have your January clear out, maybe you have come across bras that didn’t fit or you just don’t like.  They can be teen bras or nursing bras, too.

Next time you buy some pants, pick up a spare pack, too (donations of these must be new!).  These can be for children aged 3 to 15 years or womens’, sizes 8 to 16.

Bring them along to a monthly meeting in January, February, March or April.  We’re collecting for Smalls for Africa.  We’ll be sending off our collection after the April meeting.  You can also speak to Vicky Watts at the next monthly meeting or email: marketharboroughwi@gmail.com

Would you like your own craft stall in April?

craft fair clipartIf you have a craft and would like to have your own stall at our Craft Fair at the Old Grammar School on Saturday 16 April 2016, then do email us to book your place: marketharboroughwi@gmail.com     There will be a small charge for each stall.  You can also let a committee member know at the monthly meeting next week, the 27th.

More details will be given out at forthcoming monthly meetings.  But, in the meantime, Get Crafting!

Exciting events for 2016 across the county

Follow these links for details of WI events across the county including a science question time in March at Leicester University (there’s a calendar, too, with all forthcoming events in 2016).

Other county WIs are offering Crafting and Chatting on 8 January 2016 (still time to book your last minute place) and a chance to listen to Market Harborough’s own Great Bake Off winner, Frances Quinn, at Packington on 9 April.

2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 12,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Have your say – Time to Talk About Organ Donation

To evaluate the progress of our 2014 campaign ‘Time to Talk About Organ Donation’ the Public Affairs team has launched a short survey directed at members.  It should only take 5 minutes for members to complete.

 Survey link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/WIorgandonation

The survey will be open until the end of March. Thank you for your assistance and please do not hesitate to get in touch if you require any further information with regards to this matter or the Time to Talk campaign more generally (the link above takes you to some stories about the success of organ donation).
