100 years Membership Survey – have your say

WI Centenary logo eeD5k3OX_400x400A reminder to have your say on the future of the WI by completing this survey from the National Federation of Women’s Institutes.  100 Years Membership Survey.  You have until 8 June 2015.

To mark the WI centenary, the NFWI is conducting a special one-off survey of WI members.

About this survey

The aim of the survey is to understand the views of WI members on some of the big issues in Britain today, and also to understand what role members think the WI has to play in today’s society.

The results of this survey will be used to inform the NFWI’s future policy and campaigns. The findings will also contribute to a new centenary publication celebrating the WI’s historic achievements over the past 100 years and exploring the views and concerns of today’s members.

How to take part

We would really like to make sure that we hear the views of as many WI members as possible. We would therefore be delighted if you would be able to complete the survey using the link provided.

We would be most grateful if you would please circulate the survey to WIs in your federation, and ask them to share the web link above with their members.

Congratulations to Diane! Off to Buckingham Palace

Diane Claridge (1)-w500-h500Market Harborough WI member Diane Claridge was the delighted winner of the ballot to represent us at the WI Centenary Garden Party in early June at Buckingham Palace, hosted by the Countess of Cornwall (Camilla).  This once in a lifetime event will be attended by several thousand members of WIs across the UK.

Diane immediately received several offers of the loan of large hats or fascinators!  We look forward to hearing all about Buckingham Palace and a picture of your outfit.

Knitting a yellow brick road, tea and tents and yarn bomb – up date

Yes, some new terms here but things will be much clearer at the March monthly meeting.  It’s all to do with the Tea and Tents WI camping weekend this summer.   Clare and Fiona were straight there on the web when the tickets were released and will be representing Market Harborough again this year.

Yellow Brick Road is to be knitted (as part of their yarn bomb) to go around the grounds.  This complements the Wizard of Oz theme for the weekend.

Annabel enjoys Denman College raffle prize

Annabel Smith, Committee Member, had a super surprise at the Christmas raffle: a ticket for a course at the WI’s well known Denman College.  Annabel was delighted to report at the February meeting that she had attended the Willow Sculpture course with a friend.  They had 7 items using willow, including a wigwam and bird feeder.  The latter she kindly donated to the evening’s raffle.  Annabel said, ‘ It was brilliant.  Denman is great.’

Make something happen – have your say on NFWI resolutions 2015

MHWI members recently indicated their preference on which resolution the National Federation of WIs should be campaigning on in 2015.  The results to date are below.  We will be reducing this to a shortlist of 2 or 3 in March and voting again to decide which resolution will be voted on at the Annual General Meeting in June! Every vote counts!  If you want to know more, there’s an easy to read link to a short summary of each resolution at the foot of this post.

1. Next 100 years. 3
2. Plant a tree. 2
3. Public access to defibrillators. 5
4. Failing to care. 16
5. Food waste. 3
6. FGM. 19
7. Curb antibiotics. 4

Why you should consider a Denman College course

Doll1-w500-h500Committee member, Annabel, says, ‘This is the Christmas fairy I made at Denman last year and I think Hazel’s WI book makes a great perch for her! She’s made from scraps – wire, paper and a pair of tights etc. My daughters went with me and we had a really lovely day.’

She’s super, isn’t she?  Maybe put a voucher for Denman College on your Christmas wish list?  Even better, come along to the monthly meeting on Wednesday 17 December 2014 and buy raffle tickets: a £200 Denman prize is one of the wonderful prizes.
