More social activities to join in with

A reminder to keep up to date with our busy social activities programme.  A number of events are planned over the summer months, including a boat trip from Foxton Locks, also open to non-members.  Why not take the family and enjoy an evening out.  Take a picnic, too.

There’s indoor paintballing at Combat 656 in Market Harborough – places limited, so book your place now for Saturday 22 June.  Then there’s jam making (date and cost to be confirmed very soon), a pub quiz on 10 July and a murder mystery evening on 13 September – For further details on our Things to Do page.

National Conference – Hazel is to represent us

Hazel Stacey, our President, is to represent us at this year’s National Conference in Cardiff.  This will be on the weekend of 1 June 2013.

The main resolutions is the Decline of our high streets and town centres. To read more details: 2013-agm-resolution-briefing.  We are very lucky in Market Harborough to have such a thriving town centre and so many amenities.  In many parts of the country this is not the case.

Wear It – success for our first ever fund raising event!

Fashion show-w500-h500Valerie Hitchcox, one of our Co-Treasurers, has been in touch this weekend to say, ‘Just to let you know that the final total for the profit from the fashion show was £317.45 once all expenses paid.’

That’s excellent news for our first ever fundraising event.  The money will go a long way to helping with regular expenses, such as venue hire and speaker costs.

Thank you, again, to all those who gave their time to make it all happen, as well as to  everyone who attended Wear It and made it such a fun evening.  Enjoy wearing your new outfit, too – I certainly am!

Cake Club – an invitation to join us

cake-w500-h500Market Harborough WI member, Carla Scott, would like to update you on the Cake Club.

Carla has joined forces with another lady, Hannah Fenwick, who had contacted her about the Cake Club and they have decided to do this through the Clandestine Cake Club.  This is a nationwide club and it would be great if you would like to sign up to join it by clicking on the link above.   When you have the home page on the screen, click on clubs, then under group directory search, type in Market Harborough and then click on to become a member and that should take you through the registration process.

Carla and Hannah are planning on meeting on the third Thursday of each month between 7 and 9 pm.  The first meeting is on the 18th April 2013.  There will be a theme each month and the location is not announced until the week before the date of the event: that is the clandestine part and only members get to know where it is.

You do need to register and then confirm that you will go to the meeting.  Hopefully it should be lots of fun and interesting to see how people decide what cake to bake for each theme. If you look at theClandestine Cake Club website it does show bakes in other areas so you can see its not professional stuff!!

Hope to see you all at a meeting.   Happy Baking.

A huge success – Wear It

Wear It on Friday evening, 1 March was a huge success for 2 memorable reasons: our first ever fund raising event, bringing in approximately £370 and selling just over 80 tickets, as well as being a really fun evening that worked because so many people pulled together to make it all happen.  The pictures below show how it all happened:

Hazel Stacey, President, who who worked with the committee to plan the evening, as well as being at the Congregational Hall in the afternoon and evening, helping to set out the catwalk, the stalls, making the punch and co-ordinating the refreshments.  Hazel was helped by her neice, Samantha Stacey, who is training in event management.

Sisters Sadie and Wendy from the Daisy Chain Dress Agency in Kettering who supplied the clothes,  helped models choose 8 outfits each and gave encouraging guidance to the WI models.

Paula Harrison from Randall Harrison at Archway House, Lubendham Hill, Market Habrorough, LE16 9SZ who gave her time to create beautiful hair on the models.

Clairvoyance evening success

Cystal ball-w500-h500A belated thanks to clairvoyant, Alison, from Australia, who met with Market Harborough WI members and visitors at the Angel Hotel in Market Harborough on 9 January.  After a delicious meal Alison demonstrated her clairvoyance skills.

Lynda Meadows, Prgramme Secretary says, “Brilliant night! Allison is a great medium and I have now seen her on several occasions. Alison’s bubbly personality and incredible ability ensures a relaxed and fascinating evening. Looking forward to seeing her again.”

WI member Tina Fortum and her daughter both attended, too.  Tina reports, “Both Gemma and myself thoroughly enjoyed the evening with Alison.  We found it not only fascinating but extremely enjoyable. She made everyone feel at ease when it came to personal issues. We would very much want to attend another evening with Alison if the opportunity arises.  We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending a medium evening with her to friends and family.”
