Just a reminder that there is not a monthly meeting this evening.  The next one is on Wednesday 23 August when Ash from the Real Junk Food Project will be talking about Cafe Culture with Junk Food: how supermarket waste food is turned into profits as their pay-as-you-feel cafe.  Sample some delicious food, too.

Free film screening of Let Me Go

On Thursday 10 August at Denman there will be an exciting free film screening of Let Me Go followed by a Q&A with the Film Director and Writer of the film.  Details attached.  Places will be allocated via a ballot drawn on Friday 28 July.

Those successful applicants will be contacted on Friday 28 July.  Those who are unsuccessful this time will not be contacted.

Would you like to be a Committee member?  Not sure what it’s all about?  Maybe if you can’t commit to being on the Committee all year you could help out with specific events?   If so, do come along to the next Committee meeting at 7.30 pm at The Roebuck on Rockingham Road, Market Harborough (behind the Tesco garage) on Wednesday 16th August.   We look forward to seeing you then for a fun, relaxed evening.

Several current members are stepping down in September and we urgently need your support for the ongoing continuity and success of MHWI.

This summer, merrily wander the night with our Curve Young Company and Community actors featuring a cast of 70 people aged 12 to 63 in a vibrant new production of  William Shakespeare‘s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. 

 

Under the light of the moon a lover’s quartet become ensnared in magical mishaps in a fantastical forest at the hands of the mischievous fairy sprite Puck. The misuse of magic causes chaos amongst both the young lovers and fairies alike.

Directed by Curve Associate Artist Nick Winston
(Director Bugsy Malone, Choreographer Grease and
Legally Blonde), this epic reimagining features a new twist on a classic with pop music.

I am a PhD student at Loughborough University in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences. I hope this email finds you well.

 

I am looking for willing volunteers to take part in my research project called the SIGNAL study (see recruitment poster and information sheet attached). The study relates to physical activity and preventing Type 2 diabetes and involves the use of wearable devices (e.g. Fitbit) to offer real-time feedback on physical activity and glucose (sugar) levels. In total we are looking for 45 participants to take part. I am emailing you to find out whether you be willing to share the study materials with the various Women’s Institutes based in the Leicestershire and Rutland Federation?

 

Please find below details of the study:

If you meet the following criteria. 

  • You are aged 40 years or older and
  • You use an Android smartphone (e.g. Sony, Samsung, HTC, LG, …) 

We would very much like you to complete the final item of our screening process. We ask that you complete a brief online survey (http://www.bit.ly/signalstudy). Questions relate to age, gender, ethnicity, family history, waist circumference, height and weight. This survey will provide you with a level of risk for developing Type 2 diabetes (e.g. low, increased, moderate or high). If you receive a moderate or high  risk, and you are aged at least 40 years old and use an Android smartphone, a member of our research team will get in touch with you about taking part in our study.
