‘Confessions of a Country Vicar’ Wednesday, 24th April 2019.

It’s our monthly meeting this Wednesday at 7.30 pm when the Reverend Canon Alan Haydock will be entertaining us with some humorous anecdotes from his life as a country vicar!

In addition, we will be having our ‘Craft Stash for Cash’ sale, so bring along any craft materials, magazines, etc that you no longer want, clearly labelled with the price and your name (donation from each sale to MHWI funds).    Further details can be found by clicking on our leaflet ‘Calling all crafters.

Also, payment is now due for the following two social events:

  • Barnsdale Gardens in Rutland – Friday, 17th May 2019 – Cost £9.50.
  • Ladies’ Day at Leicester Racecourse – Saturday, 6th July 2019 – Cost £37.

If you wish to pay by BACS, details can be found by clicking here or, alternatively, bring a cheque made payable to ‘Market Harborough WI’.

We still require further tips for our booklet on reducing plastic, so don’t forget to bring along your ideas on Wednesday or send to our special e-mail account: reduceplasticMHWI@gmail.com.  We already have an offer to produce and print this booklet free of charge, which is amazing!

Finally, looking ahead to our May meeting, we will be having a plant sale, so if you have any spare seeds or plants, you can bring them along then.

Ideas to reduce plastic with ‘Refill Revolution’

Last Wednesday, Beth from ‘Refill Revolution’  gave us an inspiring talk about some really useful and practical ways to reduce plastic usage.

Refill Revolution - Oct 2018

First, Beth emptied the contents of her bag on to the table and showed us some of the products she uses regularly in her daily life, which included refillable drinks bottle and coffee cup, pouches for carrying lunch and snacks, an alternative to disposable nappies, reuseable sanitary towels, and cloth wipes for all sorts of purposes.

She also talked about her refill scheme to try and avoid single use plastic, whereby customers can take their own empty containers along to her market stall and refill them, rather than buying completely new ones – saving both on plastic and money too!

Here are just some of the refillable items she sells:

  • Liquid soap
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Bath products
  • Toothpaste tablets
  • All sorts of cleaning/washing products
  • Numerous dried food items
  • Herbs and Spices

From this Friday, 2nd November, you will be able to find the ‘Refill Revolution’ stall in Market Harborough’s indoor market at weekends, so do go along and check out some of the lovely, innovative products she has on offer.    DON’T FORGET TO TAKE SOME EMPTY CONTAINERS WITH YOU!

For more information and updates, you can find Beth on Facebook and Instagram :
