What’s happening in July and August

A reminder that the next monthly meeting is on Wednesday 24th August, when Sam from Iridescence Jewellery will be giving an inspirational talk about her business journey as well as a chance to see her handbags and jewellery collection close up.

On Wednesday 13 July members are very welcome to meet at Gallones Parlour in Adam & Eve Street to hear a talk about ice cream making.  We hope you will treat yourself to one, too!  A great chance to catch up with other members and enjoy a social evening.

Be in it to win it!

‘Let’s put Market Harborough WI even more firmly on the map: win a competition.’  That’s the challenge set to Clare, our President on behalf of members.  So, come on ladies, there’s several to choose from, whatever your hidden skills – writing, art, gardening and crocheting: competitions

Going, going, gone!

Mark describing and valuing pewter jug

Mark describing and valuing pewter jug

Mark, valuer, from local auctioneers, Gildings, gave members an insight into the world of selling by auctioneers: they offer 30,000 lots each year.

Gildings operate from other sites as well as their established Market Harborough premises.  Technology has greatly changed the way they operate, many buyers from across the world taking part in each sale, as well enabling all parties to thoroughly research items on line.

This member’s appealing pewter jug was valued at approximately £300 to £400.  A quiz completed the evening.

This evening’s meeting

Looking forward to a fascinating evening with our guest speaker from Gildings, local auctioneers.  Several members will be bringing in items for valuations, too, so some surprises may be on the agenda?!

Bookings will also be taken for the Bridge 67 Cookery School social event on 22 September and the Christmas shopping trip/Jewellery Quarter Museum Trip to Birmingham on Saturday 19 November.  So have some cash with you or your cheque book.

Enjoy adult colouring?

Have you or your WI tried adult colouring? Perhaps you’ve taken it up as a regular hobby?

crayon-clipart-6-w500-h500Please could any members or WIs who have tried, or currently do, adult colouring get in touch with Hattie Parish from WI Life ath.parish@nfwi.org.uk. She’d like to hear about your experiences – whether or not you enjoy it, what you get out of it, why you do it, etc., for a feature on the new craze.

 Thanks!

Feel free to share this any way you like – on social media for example, or in your newsletters – as we’d love the spread the message as widely as possible.

Many thanks,

Hattie
