Congratulations to Carrie Robinson
Market Harborough WI member, Carrie Robinson, delighted a large audience on Wednesday with her seasonal floral arrangements for Christmas. She showed us how to make an almost cost free wreath by winding ivy into a circle and decorating it with single flowers held in a specimen container tucked into the leaves, whilst others used white amarylis and winter green crysanthemums.
Practise your creative skills with Christmas bunting
At the November meeting, don’t forget to pick up your template to make your Christmas bunting to bring along to the Christmas meeting in December. Making the bunting for the Jubliee earlier this year proved so popular that the Committee has decided to give members the opportunity to show off their skills again. If you’re stuck for ideas, then just spend a few minutes browsing the internet.
All shot out at Laser Force!
‘Nuked’, ‘targets’, ‘rapid fire’ and ‘warbotic’ were all new terms we came across when a group of us visited Laser Force in Northampton last night. Some of us learned them alot quicker than others and how to use them to score loads more points, as well as how to fire accurately at opponents to give them ‘time out’ (simply meaning they couldn’t fire for a few seconds and get you back!).
It was great fun running around the obstacles in the semi-darkness and ‘forest’, trying to hit targets to score lots of extra points, firing at others and hiding to avoid being hit yourself. Our host at Laser Force ably and humorously briefed us before each of the 3 games, before taking us into the armoury each time to put on the harness and get your ‘gun’. What I didn’t realise initially was that each piece of armour was named. After each game we had a debrief in front of a computer screen showing everyone’s scores and how many targets they had hit (or not)! Good fun and a chance to meet new people!
WI diaries
Now on sale. Just ask a committee member at the next meeting or contact us.
Help using the internet?
If you need help to get going on the interet, such doing some shopping or looking up hobbies, then contact Hazel Stacey, President at any of the monthly meetings, or click on contact us. Hazel is now our very own Digital Champion. You can agree to meet up and before long, you’ll be clicking away with confidence.
Christmas raffle
Do pick up your book of raffle tickets at the November meeting. We have a hundred books, so there’s one for every member to take and sell to friends and family. This is our major fund raising event for 2012, and will set us up for funding our future programme of events, such as paying for the venue and visiting speakers. (Out of the £33 annual subscription, a proportion goes to the Leicestershire and National Federations of the WI, leaving us with £14.80 per member.)
Don’t forget, too, to bring in donations for the hampers – local food and drinks would be very welcome.
Fancy a game of badminton?
If you’re free in the morning, after the children have gone to school, and fancy a game of badminton, then we’d love to hear from you. Whatever your skill level or whether you want to meet others or just get fit, contact us to let us know when you are free.
First birthday and annual meeting
Wednesday 24 October 2012 saw the first birthday and annual meeting of the Market Harborough WI. Members gathered to receive enthusiastic reports from key commitee members, celebrating the huge achivement of 80 members joining, aged from 20 to 86 years, as well as a very successful programme of monthly activities and social outings having taken place.
A bye law was passed, bringing future annual meetings forward to September so they do not clash with half term. The evening concluded with a Dutch Supper and a WI knowledge quiz. The Brainheads won!
2013 Programme and Social Activities – out now!
The new 2013 monthly programme is now published. Hard copies of the folded programme available at the November meeting.
A list of social activities is also planned.
There’s also lots of suggestions under Hobbies, interests and sporting activities.
