Update on hobby group meeting date

Gallones was great

Image

Gallones, July 16-w500-h500Twenty two members thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Gallones in Adam & Eve Street last night.  We enjoyed a short talk on the history of the company which dates back to 1895, through to its recent, successful venture into franchising, of which the Market Harborough parlour was its pilot.

We found out about how ice cream is made and the amazing range of flavours, before getting to try some.  The salted caramel, their most popular flavour, was delicious.

What’s happening in July and August

A reminder that the next monthly meeting is on Wednesday 24th August, when Sam from Iridescence Jewellery will be giving an inspirational talk about her business journey as well as a chance to see her handbags and jewellery collection close up.

On Wednesday 13 July members are very welcome to meet at Gallones Parlour in Adam & Eve Street to hear a talk about ice cream making.  We hope you will treat yourself to one, too!  A great chance to catch up with other members and enjoy a social evening.

Be in it to win it!

‘Let’s put Market Harborough WI even more firmly on the map: win a competition.’  That’s the challenge set to Clare, our President on behalf of members.  So, come on ladies, there’s several to choose from, whatever your hidden skills – writing, art, gardening and crocheting: competitions

Going, going, gone!

Mark describing and valuing pewter jug

Mark describing and valuing pewter jug

Mark, valuer, from local auctioneers, Gildings, gave members an insight into the world of selling by auctioneers: they offer 30,000 lots each year.

Gildings operate from other sites as well as their established Market Harborough premises.  Technology has greatly changed the way they operate, many buyers from across the world taking part in each sale, as well enabling all parties to thoroughly research items on line.

This member’s appealing pewter jug was valued at approximately £300 to £400.  A quiz completed the evening.
