January monthly meeting – a couple of things!

Egyptian dancerDo join us for a fun and friendly evening of Egyptian Dancing on Wednesday 23 January 2013.  Rose Metaxa will demonstrate and there’ll be a chance to have a go.  So checkout your wardrobe for that floaty scarf with coins you’ve always wanted to wear and didn’t dare, and bring it along.  You could be the star of the evening!

Membership fees – these are now overdue.  Do remember to bring along your cheque book or some cash.  It’s £33 but where else can you have 11 nights’ out for £3 each?  Not only that, you can meet new friends and try out new things.

There’s an exciting social programme too, so remember to check out the noticeboards when you come along and put your name down.  Again, have some spare cash with you to put down a deposit when booking.

Christmas presents-w500-h500If you have any unwanted gifts that you can donate to our monthly raffle, then pop them in a bag and bring them along and give to any commitee member.

Book groupFinished reading your Christmas books?  Then bring them along and donate them to the book box so someone else can enjoy them, too.  You can browse through the box and for a small donation to MHWI fund raising you can even take away a book of your choice to while away these dark winter evenings.

Fashion Show – Friday 1 March 2013

Make a note on your calendar for 2013 to join us on Friday 1 MFashion show-w500-h500arch for an evening of fashion.

Watch this space – more details to follow nearer the time!

If you’re thinking about joining and would like to attend a monthly meeting, then drop us an email and a committee member will be there to greet you and introduce you to other members.

Christmas bunting

Market Harborough WI members proudly displayed their creative skills by entering bunting made for Christmas in a competition at the December meeting.  Enormous detail was used and many must have taken hours to complete!

Each piece was numbered and members voted for their favourite.  The winning item was made by WI member, Carla, who had done a picture of Father Christmas – spot number 3 on the pictures below.

Christmas gets off to a get start!

WI members enjoyed a festive end to the year by celebrating in style!

Market Harborough Choral Society set the scene by singing a range of new and traditional carols in the Congreational Church, WI members accompanying them on old favourites.
A Dutch supper followed.  The tables were laden with a whole range of seasonal foods – moe pounds to burn off in the new year!  Top marks though to Patsy’s husband’s Millionaires’ sortbread – delicious!
Teams then competed in a Christmas quiz.  Team Totally Crackers just (only just though) won, completing rounds on 2012 Headlines, Christmas facts and Pictionary.
Finally, the winner of the Christmas bunting competition was announced and the raffle was drawn.

Congratulations to Carrie Robinson

Market Harborough WI member, Carrie Robinson, delighted a large audience on Wednesday with her seasonal floral arrangements for Christmas.  She showed us how to make an almost cost free wreath by winding ivy into a circle and decorating it with single flowers held in a specimen container tucked into the leaves, whilst others used  white amarylis and winter green crysanthemums.

Practise your creative skills with Christmas bunting

At the November meeting, don’t forget to pick up your template to make your Christmas bunting to bring along to the Christmas meeting in December.  Making the bunting for the Jubliee earlier this year proved so popular that the Committee has decided to give members the opportunity to show off their skills again.  If you’re stuck for ideas, then just spend a few minutes browsing the internet.
