All shot out at Laser Force!

‘Nuked’, ‘targets’, ‘rapid fire’ and ‘warbotic’ were all new terms we came across when a group of us visited Laser Force in Northampton last night.  Some of us learned them alot quicker than others and how to use them to score loads more points, as well as how to fire accurately at opponents to give them ‘time out’ (simply meaning they couldn’t fire for a few seconds and get you back!).

It was great fun running around the obstacles in the semi-darkness and ‘forest’, trying to hit targets to score lots of extra points, firing at others and hiding to avoid being hit yourself.  Our host at Laser Force ably and humorously briefed us before each of the 3 games, before taking us into the armoury each time to put on the harness and get your ‘gun’.  What I didn’t realise initially was that each piece of armour was named.  After each game we had a debrief in front of a computer screen showing everyone’s scores and how many targets they had hit (or not)!  Good fun and a chance to meet new people!

2013 Programme and Social Activities – out now!

The new 2013 monthly programme is now published.  Hard copies of the folded programme available at the November meeting.

A list of social activities is also planned.

There’s also lots of suggestions under Hobbies, interests and sporting activities.

Skittles evening success

Skittles at The Cherry Tree

Table skittles provided to be a great night out at The Cherry Tree, Market Harborough last Thursday.  After a shaky start for some members, with ‘cheeses’ going anywhere but on the table, players went on to complete 2 games: an individual knock out and a team game.  The practice paid off and several ‘tens’ were scored, giving a second chance to try again and score even more points.

Sausage making fun

Members enjoyed a fun night making sausages at Waterloo Farm, Great Oxendon on 22 August.  They began by selecting the raw ingredients through to producing their own strings of sausages, helped along by the team at the Farm.  At the end everyone took their own proudly produced string of sausages home to cook and share.

Skittles evening – Thursday 18 October 2012

WI members are invited to a skittles evening at the Cherry Tree Inn, Kettering Road, Market Harborough (near Lidl), starting at 7 pm.  If you wish to eat, basket meals priced from approx £4, can be ordered on the evening.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played before, it’s a good chance to have a go and meet new people.  Come along and join in the fun.   Contact us with your name and phone number.

Laser Quest evening – Friday 9 November 2012

What is it?  For those not too sure, like me, Wikkipaedia says, ‘Laser Quest is the name of a Canadian-based indoor lasertag game based around infrared hand held units and vests, as well as the name of the company which operates each game centre.’

Join WI members and friends to find out and enjoy a fun evening in Northampton. £9.20 each for 2 games and one free one.   Go on, there’s a child in all of us waiting to play!  To pass on your contact details and to share transport, contact us.

Sausage making night – 22 August 2012

There will be a sausage making night at Waterloo Farm at Great Oxendon at 7pm on the 22nd August instead of the planned hobbies evening.  It costs £17.00 and you can take the sausages you make, home with you afterwards.  £5.00 Deposit is required.  Contact our social events secretary.
If we don’t see you at the sausage making night then have a good rest in August and we hope to see on the 26th September for a wine tasting session with Sue Lobb.

Skittles evening

The Bricklayer’s Arms at Kibworth hosted a WI Skittles evening on Friday 11 May.  Members had great fun playing both table and long alley skittles.  We found out that a ‘cheese’ is a hard, wooden lump that you throw to knock the skittles down: underarm, overarm and sideways all being tried with varying success!  A couple of people had played before and they happily explained the rules and scoring.  A simple, but tasty, pub supper completed the evening.

Everyone agreed it was successful evening and plans are already afoot for the next skittles evening in a Market Harborough pub.  Hope to see you there.  Details to follow.
