Christmas carol service
A policeman’s lot
Last night we were lucky enough to have as our speaker Alan Rogers, who delivered his talk, ‘A policeman’s lot’. He served as a police officer for 33 years for the Warwickshire force. As a youngster, he desperately wished to become a professional footballer. His parents had other ideas, and insisted he join the police, by ‘encouraging’ him to watch Dixon of Dock Green, and then Z Cars!!
He was accepted as a cadet for the police and then went on to train as an officer.
He shared a number of humorous anecdotes about the 89 year old Hells Angel, who he let off with a caution, after speeding at over 140mph!! His first fitting for his police uniform and his first arrest. He covered a range of stories about incidents in court, together with the practical jokes played on new police officers. He went on to say that these would never be allowed now, but they did help relieve the enormous stress that they encountered day to day.
Reminder – tomorrow evening’s meeting
Our speaker tomorrow, the 23rd, is our friendly, retired-police-officer who will be delivering humorous anecdotes from his time in the force. We just hope none of us feature in his tales! Guaranteed a laugh.
- The raffle will have the theme of ‘homemade‘. It can be something you made or something someone else has made by hand, any item, even food such as jam. It could be something for Christmas. If you bring a prize, you will receive a raffle ticket ensuring you get a prize yourself to take home. Get making now!
- We’re also supporting the Movember theme which promotes men’s good health. We’re hoping for some themed cakes for the refreshments (besides buying a slice with your tea or coffee, members might like to make some cup cakes, box them and donate them for selling to raise money). Another idea – maybe you can come up with something to wear that supports this worthwhile cause?

Your help urgently needed with the Christmas raffle
This is one of our major fund raising events for the year. At the moment we are short of raffle prizes. We urgently need your help to collect some more donations. If you know of a local business, or maybe your employer an help, then do speak to them in the next few days. You can then pass on details of the prize to a Committee Member at the monthly meeting next week, Wednesday 23rd November or email: marketharboroughwi@gmail.com
We are going to print very soon and need to have as many details as possible on the tickets. Thinking caps on, who do you know who can help us make this another successful event?
